• PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION

Lincoln University College’s Doctor of Medicine programme is a five-year course that will equip and train students as health care professionals in medicine. This is to meet the needs and improve the health care delivery system for the people they serve, by striving for professional excellence throughout their career in this constantly changing world.

The course comprises 2 phases; 2-year basic medical science phase followed by 3-year clinical phase. Clinicians will participate in teaching activities in both phases to provide clinical orientation and interpretation. Inclusion of basic science lectures during the 3 years of clinical phase will provide the necessary vertical integration between basic medical science and clinical teaching and learning process. The pre-clinical teaching will be held at Kelana Jaya Learning Site while the clinical teaching will be conducted in Tanah Merah and Kota Bharu, Kelantan. At the end of the MD programme, graduates will acquire the required knowledge, develop essential clinical competencies and the right professional attitude and values, which will help them to work as effective health professionals.

• PROGRAMME AIM

The aim of the programme is to provide sufficient knowledge, develop essential clinical competencies and imbibed with the right professional attitudes and values to function as an effective primary care physician.
The aims of this programme are as follows: • Apply basic scientific knowledge of various branches of medicine to understand the disease process
• Apply appropriate diagnostic and analytical clinical skills to recognize and apply the principles of management to common health problems
• Institute appropriate first contact care in emergency situations according to agreed treatment protocols and quality standards
• Appreciate that a bio-psychosocial approach to patient care is vital, focusing on the curative, preventive and promotive aspects of medical care
• Understand the various national health policies/programmes and participate in their implementation effectivelyv • Understand the socio-psychological and economical aspects of health and disease
• Undertake administrative, management and medico legal functions appropriate to a pre-registration medical practitioner
• Understand his/her limitations as a pre-registration medical practitioner and thus willing to refer deserving patients accordingly to appropriate specialty care
• Develop a critical and an evidence based approach to solving patients’ health problems and maintain lifelong learning
• Understand and respect as well as undertake medical practice and ethics as enunciated by the Malaysian Medical Council

A. School Certificate level or its equivalent:
1. SPM with Grade B each in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or Additional Mathematics and another subject, or
2. General Certificate of Education (“O”) levels with Grade B each in Biology, Chemistry, Physics,Mathematics or Additional Mathematics and another subjecta, AND
B. Higher School Certificate level or its equivalent:
1. STPM with Grade B each in Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics, or
2. Matriculation or Foundation in Science or Pre-Medical Course ( Provided the course is not less than 1 year in the same institution and accredited and with CGPA 3.0 (out of 4) each in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics, or
3. General Certificate of Education Advanced (“A”) levels with Grade B each in Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics, or
4. South Australian Matriculation (SAM) with aggregate or average of 80% or80% ATAR or its equivalent and 80% each in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics, or
5. United Education Certificate (UEC) with B4 each in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Additional Mathematics, or
6. International Baccalaureate (IB) with 30 points with a minimum of 2 science subjects or Mathematics at Higher Level (HL) and 1 science subject at Standard Level and attained a minimum score of 4 each in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics, or
7. Canadian Pre-University (CPU) or Canadian International Matriculation Program (CIMP)/Canadian Grade 12/13) or Ontario Secondary School Diploma Grade 12 with average of 80% in any 3 subjects i.e. Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics, or
8. Indian Pre-University with average of 70% in any 3 subjects i.e. Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics, or
9. Monash Univer s i ty Foundat ion Pre- Univer s i ty Program ( MUFY) or Univer s i ty of New South Wales ( UNSW) Foundation or HSC Sydney Australia or Trinity College Foundation Studies or Australian Universities Foundation Programmes or Victorian Certificate of Education, Australia Year 12 or Australian Matriculation (Ausmat) with Aggregate or average of 80% or the equivalent of B in any 3 subjects i.e. Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics, or 80% ATAR provided the subjects include Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics, or
10. National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 3 or New Zealand Bursary with average of 80% in any 3 subjects i .e. Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics.

OR Diploma level:
Diploma in Health Sciences with CGPA 3.5 (out of 4.0) and provided the course is not less than 5 semesters or 2 1/2 years in the same accredited institution and the minimum entry qualification is 2Bs each in Biology and/or Chemistry and/or Physics and 3 credits each in English and Mathematics or Additional Mathematics and another subject at School Certificate level or its equivalent
